The coastal resort of Hermanus offers the best land-based whale watching in the world. The Southern Right Whales visit Walker Bay from July until October every year. About 60 to 100 of these magnificent animals come here from Antarctica to breed and rear their young. Visitors are often treated with close up displays as these creatures often come to within 10 meters of the coast.
Day 1 You are collected at your Cape Town Hotel and taken to the seaside town of Hermanus Getting to Hermanus is a journey rich in fabulous scenery. Our tour guide will take you from your Cape Town hotel through the seaside town of Gordon’s Bay and then along the coastal road past the villages of Pringle Bay and Betty’s Bay to the holiday town of Hermanus (120km). Situated on Walker Bay, Hermanus is surrounded by majestic mountains, indigenous Fynbos and wonderful natural beauty.
Hermanus itself is a hybrid of the old and the new, it’s small town character is still there, with a modern infrastructure, some upmarket shops, the busy village square with it’s craft markets and restaurants, the whale crier who, during season, points out the where-about of these mammals, all make for a bustling hubbub of activity in, as well as out-of-season. The easy coastal walk is a lovely option to while away an hour or so. The cliff tops along this walk offer splendid views and the ability to watch the seasonal whales close up.
Day 02 (If staying in Franschhoek) – A relaxing morning in Hermanus to simply enjoy the area perhaps s swim in the ocean pool or a boat ride (own account) out to see the whales. We will leave for the wine-lands, once on top of the Hottentots Holland Mountain you will turn off towards the village of Grabouw and then drop down the mountain by way of the steep Nuweberg Mountain pass into the Cape Overberg region, into canola and wheat fields, travel alongside one of Cape Town’s dams supplying water to the City, Theewaterskloof, and then up over the Franschhoek Mountain Pass through some of the regions unique Fynbos fields and then down into the wonderful Village of Franschhoek where we drop you of at your Hotel or Guest House.
Day 03 A full day in the wine-lands – Our guide will collect you from your Guest House or Hotel to experience the surrounding wine areas. There will be ample opportunity to taste some of the magnificent wines produced in this region, we will visit a minimum of 3 estates for tastings – call in at some of the more than 300 wine-estates in this region so that you can learn about the history of wine-making in the western Cape – a suitable stop will also be made en route for you to enjoy a relaxing lunch at a local restaurant or street café (own account).We will also call in at South Africa’ second oldest town and the oldest wine-route – the university town of Stellenbosch, old Oak trees line the streets, beautiful heritage houses, cafés, galleries, boutiques, wine-tasting all make for a relaxing visit.
Day 4 You will be collected at your Hotel and transferred to Cape Town Airport for your onward flight.

The Garden Route is one of the very popular destinations from Cape Town or Port Elizabeth. Stretching from the Tsitsikamma Forests to the sea-side Town of Mossel Bay, this one of the more scenic destinations of South Africa gives you an opportunity to explore a wide variety of breathtaking, truly unique landscapes and several different eco-systems. Wilro Cape Tours experienced guides will share their knowledge of the region, see some stunning scenery, walk the beaches, explore the towns, get active or just lazily enjoy this iconic South African holiday destination.
This popular, (multiple days are needed) excursion can include visits to Mossel Bay, The Wilderness, Sedgefield’s Lake district, Oudtshoorn for a visit to an Ostrich Show Farm and the Cango Caves, ever popular Knysna with it’s forests and mythical elephants, enjoy a sunset cruise on the lagoon, call in at Plettenberg Bay for beaches and shopping, experience the forests of the Tsitsikamma. Attempt the world’s highest bungee jump on your way to the Tsitsikamma National Park.
We can drop you off at Port Elizabeth for an onward flight or at one of the malaria free Game Lodges dotted around the area.
